A new severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by Auckland city, Waitakere, Franklin, Rodney and Albany.
The severe thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast.
MetService’s weather radar detected severe thunderstorms across the Auckland region this afternoon, with the storms accompanied by torrential rain.
Auckland was hit by a severe overnight thunderstorm which has caused flooding in areas across the region. Some houses continue to lack power due to significant damage to power lines.
The line of thunderstorms, connected to ex-tropical Cyclone Tam, is moving very slowly over the region.
It comes off the back of days of wild weather following Ex-Cyclone Tam, which has left thousands still without power, and damaged roads and other infrastructure.
